University of Helsinki, Reetta Hänninen, PhD

The project explores a hidden but powerful figure in the history of Finland and its largest newspaper. It sheds light on Maissi Erkko (1872–1936), a wife, a mother and a grandmother of famous men. Profound research examines her networks and her yet unseen influence and legacy. It also explores Women’s Kagal, a women’s resistance group that organized passive resistance against the censorship and oppression.
