Uutisraivaaja is a media innovation challenge organized by the Helsingin Sanomat Foundation every two years since 2010. The contest seeks timely and societally significant journalistic projects, which apply new technologies. Uutisraivaaja’s goal is to advance innovations in journalism.

Pöytäkirjojen ulkopuolelta (Off the record) is a writing contest for former and current employees of Sanoma Media Finland. The competition has been organized by the Helsingin Sanomat Foundation in 2009, 2014, and 2019, to mark the anniversary of the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper.
